Mets’ Success Is Built on a Solid Foundation

Another dope article in the New York Times today on Pops... "Quiet confidence and good communications are part of Jerry Manuel’s managerial style"...

Here's a qucik snippet from the article,

..."Raised as a Christian, Manuel as a young man studied many religions, including Hinduism and Islam. But he maintained and intensified his Christianity without forcing it on others.

“If I had three people to fit at my dinner table, it would be Jesus, Gandhi and Martin Luther King,” Manuel said. Then he paused and laughed, softly but deeply, seemingly at himself, the sound echoing in an empty dugout before a recent game at Shea.

He is hardly the stereotype of a hard-boiled baseball manager. Manuel does not curse, and he sometimes fasts for two or three days during an off-season. “It gets me back to where I need to be spiritually,” he said.

Manuel has been married for 34 years. His wife was a cheerleader when they met in high school in Rancho Cordova, Calif. He is one of only four black managers among the 30 major league teams. He is part Cherokee, on his mother’s side. “Her parents are out of Oklahoma,” he said. “The reservations.”

With a trim mustache and goatee and black-rimmed glasses, Manuel looks like the guy playing the stand-up bass at that hip new club downtown. He said he has a relaxed policy about dress codes and facial hair for his players."...

KATE MOSS - NEW FACE OF YSL BEAUTY LINE

Kate Moss is the new face of Yves Saint Laurent's beauty line... Already having campaigns with David Yurman, Just Cavali, Bulgari, Donna Karan and French fashion house Longchap...

Currently Kate appears on the covers of the latest issues of both Vogue and Interview; in the latter she poses totally nude, and she also appears topless (yet again) in a stunning spread for the September issue of W magazine. All this comes as she launches her new clothing line for British retailer Topshop, to great fanfare. Experts predict the Kate Moss brand will develop into an extremely profitable luxury goods enterprise, with many more product lines to come.

Damn, this chick don't stop!!!

The Hermès $150,000 Peacoat!!

Hermès men’s designer Véronique Nichanian designed the crocodile coat, which will appear at the Fall/Winter 2008-2009 collection.
There are currently two navy blue coats at the flagship store on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Other coats may be special ordered for a finished product that will arrive in 3-4 months.

I can't see myself ever spending this much on a coat... However, I must say that this might be the only piece that would definitely get mad love from every end of the fashionably conscious and unconscious spectrum... No doubt designers, early-adopters and fashion mavens would love it, but even the old school playa from church who rocks his red gator Stacey Adams and rainbow Coogi sweater would have to bow down.... Gata baby!!

"Look at this peacoat, tell me he's broke!"

You can be my gold Kate Moss tonight!

"Supermodel Kate Moss 1.5 million pounds worth (2.8 million dollars, 1.9 million euros) solid gold sculpture was unveiled in London on Thursday, at the Nereid Gallery of the British Museum.

The 50-kg (110-pound) magnificent statue has been created by the famous sculptor Marc Quinn, creator of Alison Lapper Pregnant, which appeared on Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth. The sculpture of the English artist, who was born without arms, appeared on the plinth for 20 months.

It is not the first time Quinn has featured Moss in his work. His 2006 sculpture, Sphinx, featured the supermodel in an eye-watering yoga position, with her ankles behind her ears.

“I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who’s the ideal beauty of the moment, but even Kate Moss doesn”t live up to the image”."

VERSACE HOME

Versace, one of the definitive luxury brands, has added these gorgeous lounges, chairs and tables to their Versace Home line. The designs, complete with the Greek Key Versace motif, have all been in sleek white and black finishes. The furniture is reminiscent of designs from the sixties and seventies with an ultra-modern flare.
I love the clean lines and the basic white and black colors... I definitely wouldn't do an entire room in all Versace furniture, but to have one piece that contrasts with the other furniture you have would give any room some pop, a bit of style and character.

Swagger like my Daddy...

TI verse from "Swagger like Us"

"You kick it like me, no exaggeration necessary,
living revolutionary, nothing less than legendary,

Gangsta shit hereditary, got it from my dad
style colder than February with extraordinary swag"

Yep... this kinda sums it all up! holler!

VOICE STICK

An optical recognition of the characters in order to make all the books accessible for the partially-sighted persons. The Voice Stick was conceived by the designer Sungwoo Park. A simple rod on the page, and the text is translated then read in the ear-phones. It can be used to convert starting from books, newspapers, contracts or mail.

METS REGAIN FIRST PLACE IN THE NL EAST!

The Mets beat their rivals, the Phillies last night to regain first place and comeback from a demoralizing loss against the fightin' Phills the night before... Pops (Jerry Manuel) made, to some, a few questionable moves in the previous game that had the media and fans questioning him during the post game.... Many must understand that as Pops works with a beleaguered lineup to create a championship team, the players will be asked from time to time to step up in roles that are unfamiliar and succeed in that respective position... Last night after writing out the staring lineup, Pops put this quote on the lineup card -

"The student who is never required to do what he cannot do, is often unable to do what he can."

The Mets went on to comeback and defeat the Phillies, 6 -3. This is a saying we all can learn from and live by as we go through life and overcome the fear of the unknown...

I've learned to never second guess someone until you walk a day or in baseball, 162 games in their shoes... On top of that, I one day asked my dad, "How did you know to bring that player in the ninth inning, when historical baseball wisdom would say not to?" He looked at me, and the man who many call humble and quiet said with the utmost swagger, "Come on son, I know what I'm doing." That was enough for me.

PLY mobile phone concept by KDDI

KDDI au just announced their PLY mobile phone concept inspired by sandwiched plywood. Each section is tabbed to core functions like a dialpad, keyboard, gamepad, touchscreen, pico project, and printer! This is a dope idea! Instead of cramming together tons of keys on one keypad or giving individual keys a bunch of different functions - this provides a simple clean solution to a multifunctional device.
Will it ever see the light of day? I believe so. Miniaturizing some of those proposed functions seems beyond what science and technology can achieve now but never underestimate seasoned designers and crafty engineers.

UNDRCRWN X MOS DEF X DUSTIN CANALIN

According to Freshnessmag.com:

"Mos Def (whose real name is Dante Terrell Smith) is definitely a driving force in the entertainment industry. From record deals to television appearances, a talent that does it all. Now, he’s taking his first steps into the fashion industry. Long known for his love of urban style, Mos Def recently partnered with UNDRCRWN of Philadelphia for a new collection by the label’s creative director, Dustin Canalin. The aim behind the new project is to create a line with solid designs. Furthermore, it can operate independently from Mos Def’s celebrity, establishing a name for itself as a stand-alone label. While maybe not as prolific as Kanye West’s own Pastelle, this new project from UNDRCRWN and Mos Def has already garnered much attention within the street wear/urban lifestyle industry. Expect this collection to become one of the most coveted this year when it drops on August 26th at the Palms Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas. To learn more, read men’s fashion trade paper, DNR’s report on it."

Truestar Media/JL Productions have partnered up with Undrcrwn... Stay tuned...

Janelle Monáe - Definitely not from Earth!

So last night one of my best friends Sam, who is a member of Paradigm's Artist Marketing and Development Department invited me out to see one if his artists, Janelle Monae at the Viper Room on Sunset... To be honest I was more excited to go to the Viper Room than to see Ms. Monae... Soon after she took the stage, that all quickly changed. The Viper Room, if you haven't been, might be one of the best place in the country to see a show - the venue is beyond intimate and the I believe the crowd brings the best out of whoever is performing... The venue may hold 100 people and of those hundred last night many were influencers and industry giants, all of whom were standing on their feet the entire time. From Prince, to Diddy to Ne-yo to record execs... Last night, quite frankly blew me away!!

I was so impressed with Janelle's performance, that I am lightweight hesitant to write about her for fear of categorizing or describing what I experienced... The music has no category... The sound is like none other... The vibe is new and fresh... And most importantly she was authentic and effortless... Different just not the for the sake of being different but different for the sake of being organic and true...

Refreshing!! If you haven't heard her music click below and get ready for a ride to Metropolis!

SPRING 2009 CROOKS & CASTLES PHOTOSHOOT

Last week I had the honor of participating in the Crooks Spring 2009 catalogue photo shoot... We hit the Sofitel in Beverly Hills for lunch and then did the shoot gorilla style in the lobby and out by the pool... very crookesque... Our offices are right across the hall on Fairfax, but this was the first time I got the chance to break bread and kick it with these brothas...
The pieces for 2009 are crazy! The cardigan with the hood, (I'm wearing above) is definitely my favorite piece.

The catalogue went to print last night and will be available just in time for MAGIC in Vegas next week.
